about

Over the course of my life, I have made audio recordings. Though most of them are lost, the ones that I found either very interesting or actually decent were placed onto my PlayStation Portable (PSP)'s Memory Stick for safe keeping. Though these wound up being mostly covers, they were still near and dear to me as I listened to myself actually progress as a musician.

About a year ago, I lost this Memory Stick and feared that it was gone forever. I looked everywhere for it, but the darn thing never turned up.

Just yesterday, I was rummaging through my closet and found an old shoebox that I used to keep my older "tech" in. It had a number of things: A compact flash card that I used with my first camera, a number of cords that go to stuff and things... Heck, I even found my old Gameboy Color and all of my games for it. I expected to find all these things, as they were all stuff I abandoned over the years, but I'd never expect to see a little teal memory card laying on the bottom of the box.

Now that I've found the card and, most importantly, the recordings on the card, I've uploaded some of the more special songs to Bandcamp. They're all pretty rough and VERY loud, but hey, it could be worse :D

NOTES:

Smokin' Boogie (Jam with Dad, 24 November 2009): This song is the only existing recording of me and my dad recording together. I was on drums and overdubbed bass, he was on guitar. We were supposed to make an album together at this time, but we had a few too many differences in what we wanted to do and at what time...

Life (Unreleased "Studio-style" take, 27 December 2010): A song written in response to the fact that I hadn't written a full song in over a year. This particular recording was made for the album I wanted to make, but never got around to finishing. I did finish this recording so I could submit it to the ATW Boardie Originals compilation, but it never sounded "right" to me.

I Don't Want To Let You Go (Weezer Cover, 16 January 2010): At the time, I was experimenting with different drum setups and recording styles. The drumset consists of a hi-hat, ride cymbal, floor tom (for the bass drum) and a steel snare so I could focus on a more minimal approach to the song instead of playing drum rolls the whole time. I'm shocked at how decent the recording still sounds since the drumset was such a mess.

Drain You (Nirvana Cover, 12 August 2009): The earliest track on the album, it shows a lot of inexperience in how I controlled my voice... It was also my first attempt at screaming, er, shrieking... The vocals may be all over the place, but that guitar tone (coming from a Honeytone practice amp) sounds like sex and candy... I love it!

Paper Planes (M.I.A. Cover, 06 October 2009) An attempt at reworking M.I.A.'s popular song from Pineapple Express, which I was addicted to at the time. I really wanted to put some strong melody into the song, but I lost interest in working on it soon after I recorded this Audacity demo.

FL Studio Demo (03 May 2010) The first thing I composed in FL Studio. I actually made a MIDI version of it beforehand just out of boredom, but upon befriending a sorta-cyberpunk guy that made electronic music in Fruity Loops, I decided to give it a shot.

I Swear It's True (Weezer Cover, 17 August 2010) Recorded/sequenced on 3 different mediums. The guitars and bass were done on a Tascam Portastudio, the drums were sequenced in FL Studio using Addicitive Drums, and the vocals were recorded in my car on a Flip Video Camcorder... I love how this managed to come out and I wish I knew how I made the drums sound so heavy!

All My Fault/All Your Fault (Tyler Scruggs Dance Remix, 29 August 2010) I wasn't actually going to include this on this compilation, but why not? This is a dance-style remix of Tyler Scruggs's song "All My Fault/All Your Fault" that I completed soon after he uploaded the song's multitracks. To be honest, I'm only uploading this because Tyler (Mr. Scruggs himself) is sharing this same remix on an EP, but sourced from a low quality MP3. The one available here is the WAV file I converted the MP3 from, so expect louder, more painful buzzy noises :3

By My Side (Original Demo, 27 October 2009): A song written for a song writing contest with very sad undertones... Recorded purely out of boredom. It was recorded while the whole house was asleep... Unfortunately, that's all I can really recall from this song even existing...
